About HerStory Initiative Society:
HerStory Initiative Society is a youth-led, Afghan women-centered nonprofit organization based in Vancouver, Canada. It is committed to amplifying the voices, stories, and educational aspirations of Afghan girls and women who have been impacted by conflict and displacement. Through digital storytelling, mentorship, and advocacy, HerStory offers a platform for Afghan girls to share their lived experiences and reclaim agency over their narratives.
To date, HerStory’s core focus has been on storytelling—through initiatives such as InTheirWords and NexusTalk—with the aim of humanizing the Afghan experience and fostering cross-cultural understanding. As the organization evolves, it is expanding its programming to include educational support and access initiatives.
About ROYA:
ROYA is an international mentorship and advocacy program that supports Afghan girls and women in accessing higher education opportunities in Canada. Through individualized application support, and mentorship, ROYA empowers Afghan youth to pursue academic freedom and build meaningful futures. Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager will play a key leadership role in the coordination and expansion of the ROYA program in Canada. This individual will support core operations related to recruiting and onboarding mentors, delivering training, and coordinating volunteer efforts throughout the duration of the program. The ideal candidate is a proactive organizer with a deep commitment to educational equity, women's empowerment, and refugee advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor Recruitment & Onboarding
Training & Development
Organize and deliver virtual mentor and mentee training sessions (approximately 3 hours at the end of August 2025)
Maintain and update training materials and resources for mentors regarding available scholarships and the Canadian university admissions process on HerStory’s private portal
Coordinate feedback loops to improve training content and delivery
Volunteer Coordination & Program Support
Maintain active communication with mentors, responding to queries and offering guidance throughout the mentorship cycle through email and video communication tools
Match students with mentors based on program criteria and availability
Track engagement and ensure mentor-student pairs are progressing toward application goals
Support wider program activities, such as organizing info sessions as deemed fit for program progression

Qualifications:
Required:
Experience with volunteer coordination, youth mentorship, or program administration
Strong organizational and communication skills
Strong familiarity with the Canadian university application process
Sensitivity to the cultural and educational challenges faced by refugees and displaced populations
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities remotely
Preferred:
Previous experience in nonprofit, education, or refugee advocacy sectors
Proficiency with tools like Outlook and Teams
