2025 ROYA Mentorship Program - Mentor Application Form

Program Description

Thank you for your interest in joining us as a mentor!

The ROYA Mentorship Program is a HerStory pilot initiative that connects female Afghan students—who arrived in Canada after August 2021 as refugees and now hold protected person, permanent resident, or citizen status—with university-level mentors across Canada. Through academic mentorship and peer support, ROYA seeks to Raise Opportunity for Young Afghan women based in Canada by providing personalized, one-on-one guidance throughout the university application process. In Farsi, ‘roya’ also translates to a ‘dream’ or ‘vision;’ with your help, we hope to empower Afghan women and girls to achieve their dreams within higher education.

We are currently recruiting highly dedicated mentors who are experienced in the university application process in Canada and who can dedicate 2-5 hours a week to assist a young Afghan girl with applying to post-secondary opportunities and funding.

If your interest and availability align with the Program, we encourage you to review our eligibility criteria and to apply.

Please be advised that this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity.

For more information on the ROYA Mentorship Program (including eligibly and requirements), please see our Program Plan here or reach out to Lauren Maharaj, Manager, Educational and Scholarship Programs at Lauren.Maharaj@herstory-af.org

At HerStory, we are committed to building an inclusive and equitable community where individuals from all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences are welcomed and valued. We believe that diversity strengthens our work and is essential to achieving our mission of supporting Afghan women in realizing their full potential.
