Program Description
Thank you for your interest in joining the ROYA Mentorship Program!
The ROYA Mentorship Program is a HerStory initiative that connects female Afghan students — who arrived in Canada after August 2021 as refugees and now hold protected person, permanent resident, or citizen status — with university-level mentors across Canada. ROYA seeks to Raise Opportunity for Young Afghan women based in Canada by providing personalized, one-on-one guidance throughout the university application process. In Farsi, ‘roya’ translates to a ‘dream’ or ‘vision.' With the help of dedicated mentors, we aim to empower Afghan women and girls to achieve their dreams in higher education.
If your aspirations align with the Program, we encourage you to review our eligibility criteria and complete the application form below. This application form consists of two parts; Part A will request basic information about yourself and your motivations for applying; in Part B, you will be asked to write a short essay to demonstrate your written abilities.
We do not permit the use of AI in your essay responses. Learning how to write effectively is an important skill for successfully applying to university. If we suspect that you used AI in your application, it will not be considered.
Please note: Contingent upon our funding from KidsRight Foundation, ROYA hopes to help mentees cover the cost of university applications and to provide a small scholarship to successful applicants. All other university costs must be covered by the applicant and should be considered by the applicant when applying to funding opportunities.
